What is the best cheap device that will let me access wifi hotspots and check email?

I’m looking for something sort of like an ipod touch, but I don’t need the music player (I already have a 30GB video ipod), or the video player. I’m just looking for something that will let me get online and check email at wifi hotspots (like Starbucks).

there is no such thing that I know of.
I do have a little receiver device I bought at Wal-mart that let’s me find wi-fi hotspots without using a computer. They cost about $30

Why don’t you get a new cell phone? I have the new sprint treo and absolutely love it. before this I had the Moto Q. I check my email 24/7 and also do the texting which is super easy because of the qwerty keyboard. I pay $15/ month for the unlimited plans for text and internet.

kinda hard if you already have an ipod video. the psp can do that and much more besides, but the interface isnt great and if you dont want the music or films…
then again its only £100 on ebay
