Now, we have two main options to move back. We can (1) mail most of our stuff home and drive the car back (but we could not take the bed). Or we can (2) rent a U-Haul and bring our stuff and the bed back. Her father has also exceptionally generously offered to help pay for the U-Haul.

However, I have sat down and looked over the costs for both options, and the first one (mailing and driving) is around $1500 cheaper than getting the U-Haul. So if we bought a new bed for around $600, then it ends up saving $900.

Here’s my problem. Her dad seems unwilling to buy us another bed when he just got one. But he IS willing to spend $900 more than that would cost to keep the old one. This seems really, really silly to me (and driving back in the UHaul will be a much bigger hassle). But my wife says that if he’s offering to pay then I should just let it go and get the UHaul.

I sort of want to push this issue though. The man is being very generous - about $900 more generous than he NEEDS to be, and that money is just getting tossed down the drain. Even though its not my money, it seems really wasteful, and unfair to him.

Any suggestions on how to get my point across in a good way - or should I do as my wife says and just let him burn the $900?
