I am trying to rent out my home. How much above the mortage should the monthly rent be?

My wife and I are moving and would like to rent out our home. We aren’t looking to make a lot of money off it. If my mortgage is $745/mo., how much should the rental be?

I own my home. Am I supposed to report to the IRS rent money from my roommate? Any way around this?

I own my home, and I have one roommate. I pay my mortgage monthly, and she pays me a flat check monthly for rent and utilities. Am I really supposed to report this to the IRS? How would I report it? Are there any tax loopholes? Thanks!

What do you pay in rent or mortgage per month?

I know it sounds nosy but I’m asking for a reason. I currently pay 1,400 per month + a disgusting amount of money in utilities. I live in an upscale part of north Jersey in a 2 (could be 3) bedroom, roomy apartment. My husband and I are DYING to buy a home but can’t qualify for a mortgage at this time, we are hoping in a year. I’m just looking to find an average among the country. if you rent, own, your state, and the typical payment per month so I can get a basic idea. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Hey thanks for answering everyone :) I appreciate it.
Rooney’s answer is exactly why I asked this question! home prices are INSANE in NJ, absolutley insane. We are going to have to leave the state. Thanks girl. Unreal!

Is this normal wife behavior for this generation?

I am getting to the point where I cant stand my wife. As soon as we moved in together she quit her full time job and has worked part time ever since. Yet she still feels as though I should not only give her money for dinner or coffee etc. but I should also ask permission to buy things with my money. I pay the $2200 per month mortgage. She is responsible for utilities and food. We never have food, and all the utilities have been shut off at one point or another. I do my own laundry, get my own food, pick up after myself, take out the trash, mow the lawn, and basically maintain a home. It is an argument every week with my wife, because her dirty laundry and dishes are in every room. I pay alot of money to live in a dump. Her answer is I should pick it up. Why should I be her maid after working twice as many hours as her? Everyday there is a new catastrophe. She loses her keys or phone, crashes her car, loses the dog, doesnt pay a bill, she cant even rent movies or get library books because shes been kicked out of everywhere. We have *** a couple times a month, if at all, I realize she is hopeless, and I should just get a divorce. My questions are:

1.Why is my wife so lazy? And why wont she make an effort?

2.How many girls out there are like this in my spoiled generation (30 yrs old) and are in denial? They always tell you about there dreams and goals and seem motivated, then they just want to sleep on the couch all the time or spend all day on myspace.

3. Why do people always want something for nothing? I dont expect an answer for this one, I just have to ask it.

Please dont give me the what do I do speech because I have bent over backwards for her and Im constantly keeping my mouth shut just to avoid arguing. Any neutral party that has seen us says she is a spoiled brat.

Can I borrow money to buy property overseas?

Hi all you property hungry seekers out there!
I want to invest in buy-to-let property overseas but the problem is that I gonna have to borrow money for it. Is it possible to get a loan or a mortgage to buy property overseas? Few details follow: I am UK resident, EU passport, amount to borrow-about GBP 100 000. I rent in the UK but own a flat in other EU country. Possible countries to buy: Mexico, Portugal, USA.

Thanx a lot!
